At Eden School, learning French goes far beyond acquiring rules or mechanisms. Language is seen as a living tool, essential for structuring thought, expressing ideas, understanding the world, and connecting with others. It plays a central role in children's cognitive, emotional, and social development.
In kindergarten, children are introduced to French through a sensory, concrete, and active approach. They do not learn letters as abstract symbols: first and foremost, they discover their sounds. Each week, a new sound is explored through a variety of engaging activities. Children manipulate sounds using rough letters, search for words and objects corresponding to the sound being studied, classify them in a sound box, do crafts, trace, recognize, and reuse these sounds in different contexts.
This exploration is enriched by activities that focus on discovering the world, practical life skills, fine motor skills, graphic design, and sensory activities, which help to expand vocabulary, refine movements, and gradually structure oral language.
In elementary school, this solid foundation is reinforced through active and structured teaching methods. Students deepen their reading, writing, and comprehension skills through concrete and meaningful situations: hands-on workshops, investigations, writing projects, shared reading, and group discussions.
Each child progresses at their own pace thanks to a personalized work plan, promoting independence while allowing for individualized support when necessary. The teacher acts as a guide: they observe, question, encourage, and clarify reasoning, allowing each student to develop their own reference points and make sense of what they are learning.
Collaborative work plays an essential role. Exchanges, discussions, and joint projects fuel reflection, develop listening skills, and encourage cooperation. Learning French thus becomes a lever for structuring one's thinking, refining one's critical thinking, and strengthening self-confidence.
At Eden, learning French takes children far beyond mastery of the language. It supports the development of thinking skills, the ability to express oneself clearly, to listen to others, and to interact consciously. By gradually developing comprehension, expression, and the joy of communicating, French becomes an essential lever for cognitive, emotional, and social development.
